Campaigns & Events

Our branch currently organises an annual beer festival and other events to promote and publicise real ale and pubs in Tendring.

Why not join us at one of these events (check the Diary page for confirmed dates), or see how else you can help us.

The Clacton-on-Sea Real Ale and Cider Festival

A real campaigning festival, Clacton-on-Sea isn’t the biggest but it is certainly perfectly-formed. At the end of August, traditionally coinciding with the Clacton Airshow, the event showcases great real ale in this busy seaside town.

Harwich Sausage Festival

Harwich Sausage Festival

Unsurprisingly real ale and cider feature heavily in this event too but basically it showcases our fantastic local gourmet sausages and our excellent Harwich real ale pubs. A sausage throwing competition followed by a sausage tasting competition combine to make this a superb November day out.

RurAle

As an ongoing campaigning effort we aim to get people visiting our rural pubs, a campaign we call ‘RurAle’, which aims to persuade smaller groups of CAMRA members (or anyone) to visit rural pubs a bit more often.

Community Pubs Passport

From roughly early April until the Clacton-on-Sea Real Ale Cider Festival, visit participating pubs, pick up a “passport” and collect stamps to earn awards, redeemable at the Clacton festival.

Morris Traveller

Fill a coach with a Morris dancing side and CAMRA members and their friends and travel from pub to pub to watch Morris dancing and enjoy real ale. Usually held on a Saturday close to St. George’s Day.

RambAles

Rambales are generally rural walks from pub to pub, generally longer than the rurale routes, that are accessible via public transport, having increased from a single route for Community Pubs Month in 2012 to now have over 20 route options – though double-check the pubs are still open before following some of the older ones.

Cravat Day

Every 18th October we celebrate Cravat Day by dressing up a little bit smarter to go down the pub and enjoy an evening out. We’re doing it to support our pubs and draw attention to pub closures and the resultant impact on communities.

CAMRA members on the Christmas Jumper Day trip in 2022

Christmas Jumper Day

A favourite among members, Christmas Jumper Day sees us visiting a number of pubs while wearing Christmas Jumpers. Usually held on a Saturday in early December close to Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day, an optional collection for the charity is held (or members are encouraged to donate directly). Details are usually included in a branch newsletter before the event.

Harwich & Dovercourt Winter Ale Festival

An established Winter Ale festival championing dark and seasonal brews this festival went from strength-to-strength since it started in 2002, but is currently on long term pause due to venue issues. Known for a couple of years as Harwich & Parkeston Winter Ale Festival.

Campaign Medals

This is the shelf where we keep old beer festival material and other bits of information from past events.
